Research/Project Description: Working with Dr. Kim Rossmo in researching how Geographic Profiling may cultivate new techniques in counterterrorism. The research goal is to build a demographic and geographic prediction model for terrorists to facilitate military and intelligence personnel in better prioritizing suspects and more efficient use of limited resources. This project may provide insight towards new approaches in fighting terror networks. The project theorizes that terrorist operations exude patterns that are constructed around the choices of geographic locations and boundaries. The focus is primarily on areas outside the U.S. that have suffered from a high volume of terror incidents.

The focus of the research is to find out what the color choices are of young designers for the aging populations apparel and how the apparel color design decisions made by the young eye correlate with that of the aging eye color needs.

A questionnaire was used to ask young designers what colors they think the elderly like? Or what kind of color palette they think an elderly woman would choose? The designers were then shown slides with four different photos of an elderly woman wearing the same outfit but in four different colors. Participants were asked to rate the photos by most appropriate to least appropriate for an elderly woman to wear. Research results currently in progress.

Research/Project Description:  Ms. Jorgensen is currently working with Dr. Toews on a Federal grant project called “Strengthening Relationships”. The goal of this project is to teach teen parents new, healthier ways of approaching and being in relationships. FCS interns in four different schools within the Austin and San Marcos vicinity teach the program for 12 weeks.  Lessons are broken up into three categories: relationships, communication, and marriage.

Lessons on relationships include such topics as when to break-up, and what you need to know about yourself before you enter into a relationship. For communication, students learn conflict management techniques and how family patterns have influenced their communication styles. Finally, the marriage section encourages the students to explore their relationship priorities, how to prepare for marriage, and work through a crisis.

Since the majority of these teen parents are involved in at least one type of unsatisfactory relationship, this program is vital in their journey to obtaining the types of thriving relationships they desire- not only for their well-being, but also for their child's well-being.
